The Gooderham & Worts Distillery is founded by British immigrant James Worts and his brother-in-law William Gooderham.

G&W builds the largest distillery in Canada — producing a quarter of the nation's spirits in its first year, and eventually half.

The Distillery District is designated a National Historic Site — the best-preserved collection of Victorian industrial architecture in North America.

Present
The historic Distillery District opens to the public — Canada's premier arts, culture and entertainment destination.
2014
Present
The nine-metre LOVE lock installation is unveiled and becomes an instant icon of the district.

Present
The Cooper Koo Family YMCA opens a block away — 82,000 sq ft, a running track, green roof and two pools.

Present
Waterfront Toronto re-naturalizes the mouth of the Don River, carving a new river valley through the Port Lands.

The Red Brick Promenade is unveiled, leading down to Whisky Beach and a 14-metre amber-coloured fountain.
